Dixon Summer Archaeology Lecture Series

Thursday - Aug 9th, 7PM

at the Dixon Library.

Summer Archaeology Lecture Series continues ThursdayAugust 9th, Embudo Valley Library, 7pm.   Talk by Professor and Egyptologist Ellen Morris, wife of Sev Fowles, entitled: "Outwitting the State, 1350 BC”.

If one can’t beat an empire, one can at least endeavor to subvert and outwit it at every turn. This talk will examine various strategies employed by Egypt’s vassals in the Southern Levant—rulers of city-states, mountain ‘warlords’, and those who inhabited their realms—to turn the pharaonic government’s desire to rule on the cheap to their own advantage. Such strategies include absconsion, assassination, insurrection, enriching themselves at Egypt’s expense, threatening defection, and employing disinformation so as to redirect imperial aggression to their own advantage.

  See you there- Karen C.
